Breathe In Breath Out

August 26, 2009

Well, I’m afraid there’s not much new to report from the vineyards of Yountville at the moment. Anthony Bell of Bell Wine Cellars graciously spent a few minutes with me this morning, and reported that although in early spring crops loads looked as if they might be light, current walks through the rows reveal uniform berries and looser clusters — things are looking good out there. The longtime Napa Valley winemaker, who cut his teeth at BV and worked with the great André Tchelistcheff also noted an unusual phenomenon occuring with this vintage — all varietals in all areas are at about the same sugar levels, which is unusual. We’ll continue to report back on that as things progress, as it is an interesting note for 2009.
